THEFT FROM UNNATTENDED AND INSECURE VEHICLES GOWER |
Hi Everyone This is a Crime Prevention message just to inform you of a spate of theft from unattended motor vehicles in Gower in the very early hours of Friday 6th Feb. Persons unknown have entered 2 x insecure motor vehicles and removed items from within. Although these incidents happened in Gower we are conscious that opportunist thieves may target areas in adjoining wards. Please see the below advice , which will hopefully prevent you from becoming a victim of car crime . South Wales Police advise preventing theft from unattended vehicles by always locking doors, closing windows/sunroofs completely, and removing all valuables, even for a moment. Secure vehicles in well-lit areas, use steering locks, and for keyless cars, use Faraday bags to block signal cloning. Report incidents via 101 or South Wales Police online tools.
Key Advice from South Wales Police
· Lock and Secure: Always lock your vehicle, even when just paying for fuel or running into the house. Double-check that windows and the sunroof are fully closed to prevent "fishing" for items. · Remove Valuables: Never leave bags, phones, tablets, or other valuables in plain sight. · Keyless Entry Protection: Store keyless fobs in a signal-blocking Faraday bag or a metal container to prevent relay theft. · Parking Security: Park in busy, well-lit, or secure car parks. Ensure automatic wing mirrors fold in, as out-turned mirrors indicate an unlocked vehicle to thieves. · Physical Deterrents: Install tamper-resistant screws on number plates to prevent them from being stolen for other crimes. Use steering wheel locks or gear lever locks. · Don't Leave Engines Running: Never leave a car unattended while de-icing in winter. What to Do If Targeted · Report Theft: If items or your vehicle have been stolen, report it to South Wales Police by calling 101 or using their online reporting tools. · Suspicious Activity: Report suspicious behaviour in car parks or on residential streets via 101, or 999 if a crime is in progress. · Anonymous Information: Contact Crimestoppers anonymously at 0800 555 111. | ||
